祈りのひととき
足あと
ある人が、ある夜、夢を見た。
海辺を、主とともに歩いている夢だった。
大空に、自分の人生のいろいろな場面がつぎつぎにあらわれた。
その一つ一つの場面には、2組の足あとが砂浜にくっきりときざまれていた。
その一つは自分自身のもの……もう一つは、主のものだった。
最後の場面があらわれたとき、彼はそれまでの人生のいっさいをとおして、
砂に残っている足あとをかえりみた。
そして、気がついたのは、
人生のいろいろな場所に、足あとが一組しかないことだった。
そして、さらに気づいたのは、
それが、彼の思い出のなかで、一番悲しいときだったことだった。
これを見て、彼の心は大いに悲しみ、主にたずねた。
「主よ、
私があなたについて行く、と決めたとき、
あなたは、私と一緒に、
ずっと終わりまで歩いてあげよう、とおっしゃってくださいました。
それなのに、私がここまで生きてきたあいだ、
一番苦しくさびしかったとき、
足あとが一人分しかないではありませんか。
私があなたを必要としていたとき、
あなたはいったいどうして私を一人ぼっちになさったのですか。
私にはあなたがわかりません」と。
主は答えられた。
「私のたいせつなたいせつな愛する子よ、
私は、あなたを愛しています。
決してあなたを一人ぼっちにはしません。
あなたが試練にあい、苦しんでいるとき、
あなたが一人分の足あとしか見えないという、そんなとき、
私は、あなたを背負って歩いていたのです。」
One night a man had a dream.
He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD.
Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand;
one belonged to him, and the other to the LORD.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him,
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that
many times along the path of his life
there was only one set of footprints.
He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and
saddest times in his life.
This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it.
"LORD, you said that once I decided to follow you,
you'd walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life,
there is only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me."
The LORD replied,
"My precious, precious child,
I love you and I would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you.
